Huge Yarn Declutter and Donations

Hello Friends, Today I wanted to share a huge yarn related project that I recently have finished after working on for a few weeks. Lately when I have been working on my crochet projects, I go to pick yarn out of my stash and the yarn would end up all over the living room floor and just a mess. My yarn storage/area is in my living room, I will make another post soon sharing my yarn area and how I store my yarns. After crocheting for almost ten years now, I think that I have come up with a good storage system that works for me. However, back to this post for today, I have been wanting to go throughly through my yarn stash and reorganize to have my yarn stash cleaned out and organized. After being inspired by Jennifer, from Cinnamon Stitches on YouTube, with her recent yarn declutter, I decided that I wanted to tackle my yarn stash and get it under control and more organized. Since a lot of the yarns in my stash (from this declutter) were gifted to be because I crochet mostly for charities/donations, I decided that it was only right that I pass them onto someone who will use the yarns for the same reasons. So over a couple of weeks, I went through my yarn collection and set aside all of the yarns that I didn’t gravitate towards using, ones that I just wasn’t using, and extra yarns that I just wanted to pass on for donations. I also went through my crochet books and magazines (mostly magazines because I only have a couple of physical crochet books, I have mostly digital books/patterns) and donated a huge pile of them as well. When all done with this project I had 5 huge storage bags filled with yarns and a huge pile of magazines for donations. I went online and found a local church in my area who has a crochet group that crochets/knits and donates to local charities. I just felt like I had to donate the yarns back (instead of selling them) because many of them were passed onto me for donation purpose, I wanted to make sure that they were used for that reason. The woman and her husband came to pick up the donations same day as I called, and were very thankful. Of course, this made my heart so happy. Even though it was a little hard to get rid of these yarns and clean up my stash, it felt good to being doing a huge donation like this and know that it’s going to be used to help others. I also want to add, I’m very blessed and thankful for my yarn collection. I always purchase yarns on sales or clearance, that’s how I shop. (I can write a blog post about this later on as well.) Crocheting, Knitting, and Yarn Crafts can be very expensive but also can be very affordable. My favorite crochet hooks are Boye Ergonomic from Walmart/Amazon, and my favorite yarns are 100% worsted weight acrylics, my favorite being Redheart SuperSaver (I know many people don’t love this yarn but I do!). To end for this blog post, I want to say many local charities to you are in need of crochet/handmade donations. However, there is also a huge need for yarn whether it be a local church. nursing home, clubs, etc. You can donate as small or as big as you want. If you decide to declutter you yarn, even if you want to resell most of it, please consider help out a local organization but donating some of your yarns or handmade items. Any donation that you do is really appreciated by others. I will share below pictures of the yarns and crochet/yarn magazines that I donated. I hope that you enjoyed this blog post and were inspired by it to declutter your yarn and or donate. Thank you so much always for all of your love and support!

Love, Your Friend, Taralynn
